Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Outschool?

OutSchool is an online platform for kids ages 3-18 to take classes. Teachers list classes on any topic they want (academics, cooking, hobbies, art, literally anything) The teacher decides what day/time to offer the class, how long it will be, and how much to charge per kid. Teachers can teach as little or as much as you want, rather it is 1 hour a month or 40 hours a week.

  • Do I need a teaching degree to teach on Outschool?

Absolutely not. You are required to have knowledge and experience in the subject area you are going to teach, but a degree is not required.

  • Do I need to be a US citizen?

No. Outschool accepts teachers from Australia, Canada, England, Wales, New Zealand, and the US.

  • Does Outschool provide benefits and handle taxes?

As an Outschool teacher you are an independent contractor. They do not provide benefits and you are responsible for handling your taxes.

  • Can I make a full time income on Outschool?

Yes, but it not easy. It is not a "get rich quick" platform. You will earn money relevant to the amount of time/effort you put into it. This course will teach you everything Katie knows and has done to earn more per hour than she did at her full time job as a public school teacher.

Katie Jones

Hi! I'm Katie, a former public school educator turned homeschool mom. In January of 2020 I made the leap of resigning from my job as a reading coach to stay home and homeschool my severely dyslexic son. As a single mom, finances have always been a focus and priority to ensure I can adequately provide for my son. I saved for 6 months to be able to homeschool my son for half a year. The plan was always for him to head back to school in August after receiving intensive intervention at home and for me to return to public schools. Then the pandemic started. I knew my son would struggle with virtual learning and I knew I would struggle to support him while balancing virtual learning as a teacher. I made the decision to stay home and homeschool him again, which was a huge financial sacrifice. Over the summer I found Outschool and instantly fell in love with teaching again. I was suddenly able to teach the lessons I loved most, interact with students, make my own schedule, and determine my pay. Outschool has allowed me to fulfill my passion for teaching, while also putting my son first by homeschooling him. I am beyond excited to share this platform with others.
